A loose cable changes the repair priority
If a cable is hanging loose or the door lifts unevenly, discontinue use. A cable belongs to the loaded lifting system; cutting it or trying to wind it back can be dangerous. Keep the area clear and describe whether the door is open or closed.
Check the lifting system as a whole
Cable condition, attachment points, drums and spring balance need to be considered together. Ask whether replacement is needed and what caused the cable problem. A cable repair is different from weather-seal work or adjusting a remote, even when all affect everyday use.
Your questions
Is a loose lifting cable safe to leave until later?
Stop operating the door and arrange assessment. A loose cable can affect support and movement, even if the door previously completed a cycle.
Is cable replacement the same as spring repair?
They are different components of the lifting system. The assessment should check how the fault affects the system and identify which parts actually need work.
